International Student Exchange brochure

The Office of International Programs& Development (OIPD) was set up in May 2010 as a response to GIMPA’s expanding programs with external and international universities, agencies and other institutions since 2005. The mission of OIPD is to ensure that all Faculty, Students and Staff obtain an international experience through our global partnerships and alliances. To this end, we promote, assist and coordinate all international activities throughout the Institute. Functions of the Office include;

• Working together with students, faculty and staff members to enhance GIMPA’s role as an international institute of education and research in Africa.

• Coordinating the institute’s comprehensive linkages with selected higher education institutions, agencies and departments outside the country.

• Engaging partner institutions to explore our research potential in collaborative efforts on global issues and faculty training programs as required.

• Organizing and conducting study/internship abroad programs.

• Providing various services and advice to international students, scholars and all stakeholders and GIMPA.

Admission Criteria

Medium of communication

All programs are taught are in English but GIMPA is not clearly cut away from our sister Francophone institutions as it has an active French laboratory fully stock to provide students with their French basic program.

Course load

The academic work load for a year is 10 subjects making up 30 credits. Students are entitled to 5 subjects for 3 hours making up 15 credit hours per semester. That notwithstanding, Exchange students can take more than the 5 subjects depending on either their own interest or as deem by their home institution.

Course Enrolment        

Students are recommended to choose subjects that are done in their mother institutions so that such credits could be transferred into their records. Courses chosen must not overlap with each other.

Documentation

Academic transcript, Information page of passport, Exchange Application form filled, Learning agreement from home institution, Nomination letter from home institution, Motivation letter, English Proficiency letter.

Registration

It is mandatory for all students to register their courses during the registration period at their respective School/Unit/Department at GIMPA and print out Proof of Registration receipt which should be submitted to the Office of International Programs. Student should visit the secretariat of their respective School/Unit/department at GIMPA for Lecture/Course timetable before going online to registration.

Examination

Exchange students are required to sit for the end of semester Examination as per the examination timetable that will be provided by the school. *** Students are advised to receive their end of semester Examination timetable before buying return ticket***.

Accommodation 

Facilities are available on campus to Students all arrangement can be made by the International programs office. Accommodation rate is Gh¢ 1,240.00 per month at a 40 rate per night. Additional information

Fees: GIMPA provides a tuition waver for exchange students who have been nominated by their institution. But all additional individual expenses to be borne by student.

Visa: Student should check with the Ghana embassy in their home country on the kind of visa they will receive and which possibilities the visa will offer. Once you have received an admission letter (letter of acceptance) you may send it with your travel document for visa/study permit.

You need:

  1. A valid passport
  2. Admission letter (acceptance letter)
  3. Letter from your sponsoring organization
  4. Medical/travel insurance
